I only use zooms when I know that I need the range of focal lengths. A 24-105 makes for a good travel lens, but so does the 16-35 F4 IS. It all depends on where you plan to travel and the sorts of photo opportunities you expect. The 17-55 has a much more conventional range on your 60D, and the 24-105 is not that much faster than the kit lens. The 17-55 isn'the really tack sharp until f4, but it is probably your best bet.
